2013 Trek 4300 Disc

Trek's 4300 Disc is perfect for getting into mountain biking, cruising around town, commuting, running errands and everything else! Its Trek Gold aluminum frame feels light enough to float and is built plenty tough to hold its own in the durability department. This sweet ride boasts a 100mm-travel SunTour suspension fork for control, an easy-pedaling 27-speed Shimano drivetrain, a plush seat and super-versatile tires on dependable wheels. Plus, to really keep your speed in check, you've got powerful Hayes disc brakes too.

      Comments:

I have the 2014 model and by Reading the previous comments, I must say that this versions seems to solve the major problem: brakes. Now it comes with Shimano brakes instead of Hayes. I've taken this bike to some nice and hard XC trails and it's been a joy through and through. I'm really looking forward to take it on a journey to know nice places and cities.

        Comments:

Ended up spending another $100 to replace rear brakes. Want to replace front brakes as they squeak. Bike has been very frustrating because front shocks are not responsive. Fell hard on gravel from bad performance bike. I would spend more money and get a real bike.

        Comments:

I've ridden my blue 2012 4300 for a year now and overall I'm pleased with the bike. I've been rough on the bike this year. I originally bought it for just commuting and running errands. I even added a kickstand. Lots of curb jumping and some wet weather. Then I started riding trails and then more trails with the bike, and that's where you see its limitations. It's not a bike for rocky trails and technical single track. It's noisy and a harsh ride on the bumpy trails. Riding under these conditions can tire you out and be rough on your body. The chain and rear derailleur will slap and make a lot of noise under fast decents and the rear wheel will loose traction on the bumpy sections. I did replace the seat as it was too firm and narrow, but I don't have much padding on my bottom. The brakes work great, and the fork can easily be locked out while riding if needed. I love the grips...good with bare hands or gloves. It shifts smoothly for the most part, but my front derailleur rubs against my chain...making noise when I'm in 18th gear. My Trek dealer couldn't fix that. I'd like to put street tires on it as I'm shopping for a full suspension bike now. It's a versatile bike and very tough and reliable. I would recommend it to someone who needs to bomb around town or it you're riding smooth trails.

        Comments:

Looks nice on the trail but my enjoyment of this bike has been dogged by the poor brakes. I've had my rotors and pads replaced under warranty but still suffer like many of the other reviewers with severe juddering when applying the rear brake. It's so bad and noisy you can feel it right up through the seat when applying the rear brake. Trek don't publish weights for their MTB range apparently and this model is disappointingly heavy. Everything else other than that seems fine, but I'm not sure I'd buy another one.

        Comments:

Got this bike for my birthday in 6th grade. 6 years later it's still going strong for me (occasional adjustments, brake and tire maintenance, nothing too big or unexpected). Originally it was intended for me to use it on trails, but I've used it in-city more. Comfortable ride, quick, and agile. I'll be getting a city bike later on, but this one has done its job for the better part of my childhood. Preformed exceptionally on trails.

        Comments:

Ride cross country and single track 1-2 times a week. The tires are a weak spot unless you are doing urban riding. They are useless if you ride in loose conditions. The preload on the fork doesn't seem to actually adjust anything and is too high for most riders. The seat is terrible. I replace the tires with some aggressive Kendas, the seat, and found a Fox Float 32 on clearance and it's a new bike. Comfortable, capable, and smooth.

Have the 2012 4300 (Orange/Matte black) This is a great everyday bike. I ride it on the civilized trails. Now and then we go on the 'real' trails. My 4300 stands up just fine. Its surprisingly agile in the city too. Great all around bike with higher-end components (hydraulic brakes) for the price. Maybe its just the shape of my rear-end, but the saddle was bad. Its my only beef. Buy this bike !!!!

            Comments:

I love this bike. Purchased it during trek spring sale. Much lighter than my other mountain bikes. Love the gears on the bike and how quickly they change. But big down fall were the brakes. The rear brake work great the first mile and then after that it had this bad vibration. The vibration so strong I can feel it throughout the bike. It doesn't give me the control I need when it vibrating. Bike is back at the shop. It not trek fault it Hayes according to the technician. But overall I love this bike.
