Thule Raceway 2-Bike Rack

Thule's Raceway is as stylish as it is functional and easy to use, so it's the perfect complement to your 4-wheeler. Thule's innovative Fit Dial lets this sweet rack easily attach to most vehicles, while the tough straps secure it in place. Then, rubber anti-sway cradles prevent your bikes from swaying into each other and the integrated locking cable keeps your precious cargo safe. The Raceway folds for storage too.

    Comments:

So I got this rack for a 1000 Mile road trip (one way) because you don't have to retighten the straps every 50 or so miles like other cheaper racks. The rack does lock to the car and the bike does lock to the rack. However I would not trust the little wire lock on the rack with my bike on it overnight somewhere (not that I would leave it out). But what I did when I had to run to the store for something was wrapped my bike lock through my bike frame and under/through/all over the bike rack itself. So I knew my bike was stuck to that rack. And with the rack locked to the trunk, it gave me a little peace at mind or peace in mind? Whatever I knew I could trust it. As far as the 1000 mile road trip, I didn't HAVE to retighten the rack at all. I still tried because I was a little scared at first but it wouldn't go any tighter. The driving conditions where pretty crazy too. I drove through Rain, Sleet, Snow, High Winds and regular beautiful weather. The rack stood up and made it through all of it. When I drove through the snow it made my entire front wheel freeze over into a big block of ice and acted like a parachute and kicked the tires out so it looked like the bike was flying in my rearview mirror. Also at 80+ mph the bike likes to act like a parachute again. Sort of user error, all I did to fix these issues was take the front wheel off and used to blue strap they give you so your pedals don't move and strapped the pedals to the bottom half of the rack to keep the bike from flying up at high speeds. Something really awesome about this bike rack is it wasn't made to fit my wife's car because of her rear wing on the trunk but it was possible to make it fit. All I had to do was make the angle a little more acute so it lifted over the wing and tightened the straps, worked perfectly. I guess some stuff I could say was BAD is it is kind of heavy but it's just sturdy. And when you drive with it you'll be glad it's not some 2 pound flimsy thing that's going to brake. One other BAD thing is it does take the gas mileage down a bit. I think that applies to all racks though. I mean it is like adding a 50 pound spoiler to your car. Oh yeah and it scratches the car but there little scratches. Aslong as the rack and the contact points on your trunk/bumper don't have any dirt you should be fine. Bottom line, if you can afford to, get the Thule Raceway 2 Bike Rack. It's worth it!

    Comments:

Let's get the negative out of the way.... it costs more than the average trunk-mounted bike rack out there. However...you get what you pay for. This rack has features such as clean aesthetics. You won't mind leaving it on your car if you have to, in a pinch. The lock-to-car feature is a great feature, especially considering the amount of money you pay for it. The lock-to-bike feature is also a goof deterrent for temporary stops with the bike mounted. This is a solid rack that I would recommend to anyone. Just be sure to clean the contact areas on you trunk to avoid the chance of scratching the paint. I have not had any issue with this but just practical and cautionary tip, for any trunk mount device.

    Comments:

I can't say it's durable, only because I just bought it and I've only used it once. But it looks plenty durable to me. The only con is that the locks can be a little tricky. Just "wiggle" a little on the cable-tightening knobs when it's hard to lock or unlock. This is my first car rack, so I honestly have nothing to compare to. However, as I was shopping for a rack, I could see a huge difference between other racks and this one. I bought the Raceway 2 for several reasons. No nylon straps to fuss with, tighten, abrade the paint on my car, fray, vibrate in the wind, or contain the "tails." The rack's contact patches are large enough to prevent denting but no larger than necessary (less contact that can cause abrasion damage). Of course you have to remove the bikes to open the trunk, but the rack, itself, can stay on the trunk. It's wonderfully self-contained and easy to fold & store, and no straps to lose or tangle. I like that it locks to the car, so I know it'll be there when we get back from a ride. I like that the outer bike can be locked so I can leave it in a parking lot without worrying. There's so much that's ingenious about this rack. If you can scrape up the extra funds to buy this rack instead of a cheaper one, do it. I believe I'll always be glad I spent the extra money to buy this rack.
