Hooked up so the magnets are read by the sensors but it does not work. Don't wast your time and money.

      Very Happy after LBS Correction

      • With Built In Sensor Loca

I bought this combo package for my new Trek DS 8.6 which includes a built-in location for the sensors in the left chain stay. It works perfectly after my LBS and corrected it. I used the provided middle AND small size cadence magnet bands, but then had to also add my own plastic shim to push the magnet another 3 mm closer to the sensor in the chain stay. The biggest provided band was just too close, it hit the chain stay. So cadence monitoring was working very well. However my package only included one spoke speed magnet, the aero dynamic one meant for carbon bikes. So it was not getting picked up consistently, just intermittently. I noticed the problem when comparing my speed data with a smartphone GPS app. I took it to the LBS, and the mechanic instantly saw the problem and replaced the spoke speed magnet with the correct cylinder shaped magnet intended for alloy bikes. I also knew I had the wrong part by looking up and downloading the latest PDF manual from Bontrager's website. It indicates that both spoke speed magnet types are included in the package. So perhaps newer products have this update. So by looking online, and asking for help from the LBS, this combo package works perfectly and I'm very happy with it. One thing to note, while the DuoTrap S sensors provide both BLE and Ant+ data simultaneously, the Trip 300 only receives ant+ data.

The very best thing about this combo is that it is built-in (on my Trek 7.2 FX), and works flawlessly. I'm a data driven kind of guy and have found having this info automatically available to be highly motivating and rewarding. I'm most focused on distance, but refer to speed often too. Best of all I can monitor and adjust my cadence. As I mentioned it took 1 trip to my LBS to get it adjusted (added a shim on cadence pedal magnet) and it works great.

I bought this from the Trek dealer when I purchaed my bike. They installed it and told me it was good to go. My first ride my average MPH was reading 9-10. ? I knew that was wrong, because I typically average 15-16 MPH. Also, CAD read "0" the entire trip, so I was never able to monitor my cadence. I took the bike back to another Trek store (figuring the previous one didn't know what they were doing), sure enough the mechanic acknowleged it was not working right. He "re-paired" the digital display with the sensors and showed me it was now working. I took off from that shop on a ride with my buddies, as soon as we took off CAD read "0". I have a frame built for this computer. The wireless signal is simply not strong enough on this device. Too bad because it offers so much. I'm taking it back and putting my money towards something that actually works. MapMyRide is actually more accurate...believe it or not.
