    Comments:

My wife and I have used our T900 for one summer, and the bike carried us dependably for many hundreds of miles. Overall it's a great value. There are VERY few tandems to choose from at this price point; the only other that we could find was the Raleigh Companion, which is very similiar to the T900. We ended up going with the Trek because the aluminum frame is a bit lighter than Raleigh's steel frame, and we got a nice deal on a leftover demo bike. The T900 is definitely capable of being much more than a cruise-around-the-neighborhood tandem. It's no speedster, but it is sturdy and everything in the drivetrain works very well. We often use it to pull a child trailer with kid plus gear, and I would not hesitate to take it out for long-distance tours. At first I was skeptical of the grip shifters, but now I prefer them to thumb shifters, especially on a tandem where I'm contantly shifting and often shifting though multiple gears at a time. It's worth pointing out that bike shop empoloyees will tell you that you need a special roof rack to transport the bike, but we use a regular trunk rack on the back of my car, and it works just fine (I do remove the wheels). I should also point out that while this bike is very adjustable, it is designed for a tall captain and a short stoker. I am 6'1" and my wife is about 5'2", and it works well for us; I don't think it would work well for a tall stoker. There are a couple weaknesses worth pointing out. Most significantly the stock brakes were pathetic and insufficient for a tandem. I upgraded the brakes and levers to Avid SD5, and it works much better now. Also, after intalling and uninstalling my rear rack several times, several of the mounting eyelets on the frame became stripped; I have been able to resolve this by using bigger screws in some places and nuts/bolts in others. In most places, nuts/bolts are fine, but there is one eyelet near the cassette where this will not be possible. Smaller problems: the stock saddles are absurd monstrosities that are not suited for anything more than a ride around the block--change them out immediately after purchase. Also, the stock pedals are cheap, slippery plastic--change them out or add toe straps to keep from slipping. Overall it's a fun, quality bike at a decent price!

    Comments:

My wife and I really enjoy taking it out for rides. The high quality components with 26' tires make it very smooth and comfortable on the roads. The handing was surprising easy for a longer bike. Just need to make the front smaller so it could be easier to make adjustments for sizing. Had to drop the front seat low, which made the back handle bars lower and uncomfortable for my wife.

Both of my girls were 5 when they learned to ride w/o training wheels. They stoked on the T900 at 4-5. It was the perfect trainer for my family. The T900 was inexpensive, I added a kickstand and removed the rear suspension seatpost to accommodate my ladies as an extra height adjustment. It is rock solid & fits in the back of my truck. Everyone digs it.

        Comments:

I bought this bike to add a new healthy dimension to our relationship. My sweetheart was not a real cyclist so I didn't want to commit to a high end machine. This bike has fit the bill and then some. We ride three to four days per week in all but cold weather. Our average rides are about fifteen miles, but we have logged as much as sixty on a trip around Marthas Vineyard. After 1600 miles the only component that shows significant wear is the rear timing chainring. Not too bad considering that I'm a 260 lb. construction worker. My only want would be for a more powerful braking system. With my weight and panniers loaded with gear, I would like to stop faster. We love the bike. It draws lots of smiles and friendly comments from spectators. Thanks to Trek and my local bike shop.

Great ENTRY level Tandem... I'm not a big fan of the grip shifting, but I can remedy that easily enough. The bike shop was able to configure the T900 for me (6'4" male captain) and my female stoker (5'9") with appropriate seats and handlebars easily (@ no charge - kudos). The rear brake is a little weak, but I am working on a disc brake solution. Overall, build quality is great, but I am concerned about the stoker seat post bending b/c the rear cross tube intersects in the middle (not the top).

When my wife and I decided on a tandem it was because we wanted to do something together that would be good for us. We didn't realize it would also give us so much enjoyment of sharing our time together. We're not cold weather riders so in Wisconsin our months are limited, but we still manage to put on over 1500 miles a summer. Not bad for seniors.

              Comments:

We purchased this Trek so that my 8-year-old daughters could learn to ride on the road with their dad (aka, me). It is one of the few tandems that, with slight tweaking, can be ridden by short (48") stokers without the torture of bolt-on crank shorteners and/or kidback sets. By replacing the stoker seatpost with a non-suspension one, the seat with a Serfas gel youth saddle and getting short crank arms (135mm in our case), our 8-year-olds were able to ride on back without issue, just like a "real" stoker (we have twins, but only one rides at a time!). For the price, it can't be beat.

I think it needs a kick stand why lay down [$] on the side walk. But in all a very good time for every one in my family. When my wife and I go bike I don't have to wate for her.

              Comments:

I bought this model, sight unseen, as it was still in initial production; I had a two-month wait, but was not disappointed when it arrived. I have had the bike for well over a year and have had no problems as of yet. The bike is heavy in a good kind of way, in that it is very stable, rugged, and reliable. The bike is loaded with features, and is adaptable for even more. The only real inconvenience is that the bike has no integral kick-stand and really cannot accomodate one.
