2015 Trek Superfly 24 Disc

Start your kid out right! Trek's Superfly 24 is a full-on mountain bike, just sized down for your little shredder. Ready for real trails, it's got an aluminum frame and 50mm-travel suspension fork. A genuine 24-speed Shimano drivetrain supplies the pedal power and lets your young mountain biker climb higher and ride farther, while the Shimano hydraulic disc brakes provide easily controlled stopping power and safety.

Bought this for our 6 yr old to shred in Northern NJ and NY State. This bike took her to the next level of riding. We lightened the bike by converting to tubeless, carbon fibre bars, clip-less pedals and a race seat.

My 9 year old got this for his birthday and it has really helped him on the trails. The gears are just about right for him. He makes it up all the hills and on the flats he can really get some speed. The suspension could be a little better for the downhill trails we have, however this bike handles the downhills better than his old bike. Had some issues with the rubber covering on one side of the fork coming off all the time. The local shop is helping us fix it.

Purchased for my 7yr old. Compared with 8 other 24 inch bikes, this one has the best price to weight ratio. 26.2 pounds total w/o kickstand. Has rims with sidewalls for rim brakes (his is disk brake version), and the fork is absolute junk, maybe 1 inch travel max (I installed a zip tie to measure travel). Otherwise, decent build.

              Comments:

This bike is not an average kids bike. The gearing is suitable for a child with less power trying to climb mountains. The tires are fast rolling. The entry level HD Brakes work great for a child's weight. The suspension is fine....not an air adjusted setup so a little easier to set but not as nice....it's adequate for a child. 26lbs. The bike is pure Cross Country (XC) Great for a kid that likes to go fast. It also handles technical stuff quite well. Definitely worth the price to go Hydraulic. It inspires confidence for the little ones.

              Comments:

My parents bought the last year's model, the MT 240, for my sister as an early birthday present in 2013. I suppose most of the parts except the hydraulic disc brakes are the same as the bike we have. I personally like the 24 speed drive-train, and power transfer is great too. My sister is very happy with her bike. She is screaming fast on the trails and it promotes confidence and her cycling skills have clearly gotten better. This bike seems well balanced. The peeve I have about this bike is that it has better components than my Trek 3500 Disc. The V-brakes seemed like they didn't have a lot of stopping power, so we went to the shop and got some Shimano XTR brake pads, and the stop awesomely. Also, the tires seem very poor, but that's always an easy replacement from the shop. Overall, it's a great bike for kids to start mountain biking, need to bike to school, or just start a great riding experience. Happy riding!
