I purchased this bike to be my commuter but also wanted something I could use for fitness. I have a road bike that I use for serious training but the FX 7.3 is great for jumping on for a 30 mile fitness ride or a quick trip to the store. The 32c tires gobble up the road chatter and roll smooth and even rolls well on the beach. Shifting is smooth and precise. The only draw back for me is saddle comfort on 20 mile plus rides but that's an easy fix with a new saddle. Bottom line is that this bike will see many more miles of fun in the coming years.

This is my third Trek bike.The first two were road bikes.I got hit by a car last year and felt I should take it easy plus I am 66 years old.I tried the stock 32s and later switched to 25s.what a difference.So much for taking it easy.This bike is quick and handles great.The shifters are responsive and I change gears more now than ever.yes,I did recommend it and he got one.

After my custom high-end commuter road bike was stolen, I decided to save some coin and get a basic commuter. I actually bought this bike along with a 7.3 WSD for my wife. The two bikes together did not cost what my road bike did. The bike cuts through city and urban riding like a Katana. Fixie guys look sad at the speed and mobility of the FX. Gears are sometimes just better. These gears are a little clunky, but they function flawlessly. They transfer power smoothly, and the tires have near road bike performance despite the added weight. The bike is a little heavy. However, that added weight helps with the ride. It is smooth. Not chromoly or titanium smooth, but very light with minimal vibration. The saddle is a little cheesy. It looks nice and is supportive but can cause some numbing even on shorter rides. After a few weeks the saddle does grows on you. The brakes and wheels aren't bad for what you pay. The shifters are a welcomed addition. They are simple mountain bike shifters and they work. The wide handlebars do make putting on lights, and bells a real pain. The grips are ergo-shaped, but need some adjustment for each rider's sweet spot. The bike doesn't top out real fast, but it is perfect for commuting, fitness, grocery getting, and bar hopping. The FX 7.3 is a basic bicycle, and a darn good bicycle at that. No frills, no unnecessary high priced parts that you don't need. If you want a great bike at great price that performs everything short of going down the side of a mountain, buy this bike.

    I've had the Trek 7.3 for 2 months now and have put 530 miles on it. I am 6' and 210 pounds, although the bike fits me well. I made a few upgrades from the original components. The Trek came with a stem that was 0 degrees which had me bent so far over my neck hurt after awhile. I got a stem with 110 degree rise, which is better for me. The right pedal broke and I needed to get a new set. I chose a mountain bike pedal flat pedal over clipless. The seat is not very comfortable, so I put a gel seat on, which is better but once sweaty even that proved to cause chafing. I covered the gel seat with those bags my wife gets at the store. With them on there I get very little rub and am much more comfortable. When I'm out riding the Trek is really responsive, it is geared such that I can sprint easily or just maintain any pace I like. It has a granny gear that I use to go over the steep over-passes on I-95 or the Florida Turnpike. It is a good bike that may need some upgrades depending on personal riding style. Oh and don't forget to put Mr. Tuffy's tire inserts to help prevent flats.

        I bought this bike a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it. I can't wait to go out riding. This bike pulls you forward. It glides just beautifully. I had walked into my LBS after doing a fair bit of research into other hybrids and pretty much had settled on the Trek Verve 3, which is about as comfortable as you can get in a bike. But at the last minute I asked about and tried the FX 3 and with one stroke of the pedal, I was hooked. I could clearly feel the difference between the comfort hybrid and the performance hybrid and in the end I opted for performance. The store owner described it as the difference between a Lincoln and a BMW! I rode it home from the bike store and simply loved it. The fit is terrific and it responds very well, feeling nimble and relatively quick for a hybrid. Plus, it's light. I love the looks and the color - I got viper red and switched out a more comfortable saddle. The isozone grips and 27 speeds are great features. I'm really glad I went for performance over comfort this time around.
