I bought this bike for my Granddaughter. It's the second FX I purchased for my Grand Kids. I love the durability of Trek bikes. This bike will last them a life time. I personally own 3 Trek bikes and they all have the same quality and great ride. I own a Trek series 2.1 road bike, a Trek Navigator and a Trek DS 8.2.

        Comments:

As a novice, I bought the 2009 model in June 2011, and three years later I'd say it's as great as ever, which is quite a compliment considering I had done zero maintenance during those three years. For the first two years, my riding habits included riding to nearby stores and going on 40-mile-long rides, which were grueling but through no fault of the bike; I attribute the discomfort to inadequate food and water, bad seat adjustment, and ozone. Currently, I commute to work 8.5 miles almost daily, and it's a joy. I've been trying out different saddle and handle bar positions and have found that I like the handlebars being lowered a little; leaning forward a little more keeps the saddle from getting too uncomfortable. Regarding the lack of maintenance, I still use the original tires, and although the back tire is getting bald, the front tire is still in reasonably good condition. The brake shoes are still the originals, though the back pair are nearly worn to nothing, so I'll be replacing those soon. I had never washed or oiled or greased anything until last week. The ride felt quicker, smoother and quieter. Never had any spoke problems like others have mentioned. I can't comment on how the ball bearings are doing because I don't yet have the courage to One thing I dislike and a few tips: -My thumbs often get numb when commuting and I can't find a position that prevents that. -When you first get the bike, check if the nuts on the wheels' axles can be loosened. It helped mine spin more freely. -One wet winter ride caused the cassette to rust slightly, but that hasn't worsened the ride quality. -The back tire has a spot that's flatter the the rest of it. This might be due to leaving the bike on its wheels over one winter. -The derailer seems to be very precise and sensitive. I had no problems at all for three years until I washed the bike. I guess I hit the adjustment knob. It took a lot of minute, back and forth knob-turning, but I got the shifting just about back to the way it was before.

I only gave this bike 4 stars because I haven't really been riding it too much due to the weather. I did ride it today and have to say I miss the suspension on my mountain bike LOL but this bike moves along so much better.

            Comments:

I have been using this bike for several weeks now and have a few hundred miles on it. I generally use this bike with a child trailer attached to the back which does add quite a bit of weight but that was what this bike was recommended to me for. The biggest issue I have had has been shifting I have needed the store to adjust the shifting a few times because even without trailer attached I had trouble shifting with the chain just dropping off. But I do go up extremely steep hills with this bike and it has been up to the challenge so far. I can coast pretty well on regular ground but 25mph is about top speed for comfort before the bike doesn't feel stable.

            Comments:

The frame takes up a lot of the bumps which is good if the roads and sidewalks are as messed up as the ones over here.

I love this bike. It rides very smoothly. I have 2 full knee replacements and this is the first bike I could still pedal going up hill. This bike would prefer pavement, although it still rides smooth off roads it preforms much better on paved surfaces.

I bought this bike in an effort to start exercise an loose weight aka middle age. First couple of rides the seat was uncomfortable but the dealer said to persist and you will get used to it - and it did. My first initial rides were around 20km until just recently i was up around 60km. Don't expect to be overtaking any road bikes as it is a different riding position/experience. Did take a couple of visits bake to the store for some minor adjustments as things settled in which is to be expected. I have done about 2000km on it now and have only just upgraded to a carbon fiber bike. Overall the trek 7.1 was a great bike and i would definitely recommend.

Great entry level bike. Very versatile. Can ride on the road, in parks and some off the road. This bike hooked me in cycling, so I am considering getting a road bike, too. But I'll also keep this one for its versatility.
