2013 Trek X-Caliber (Gary Fisher Collection)

Trek's X-Caliber rules the trails with its light, stiff Trek Gold aluminum frame with Gary Fisher G2 Geometry. It's quick and capable, and offers excellent climbing, descending and handling so you ride your favorite trails faster with the same effort. Leading the charge is a custom 100mm-travel RockShox Reba fork that soaks up the rough stuff. And, a SRAM/Shimano 3x10 drivetrain lets you steamroll over, across and down pretty much whatever Mother Nature puts in front of you. Plus, the X-Caliber boasts Bontrager's great tubeless-ready 29-inch wheels with meaty 2.2-inch tires, sure-stopping Avid discs and a host of legit Bontrager components

    Comments:

So, this is the first bike of its kind I've ever owned. And the first 29er. I will never go back. This thing eats up the ground infront of you like the batmobile. It is like a juggernaut and yet responds like BMX. I love it.

    • Sloppy Design For Mud

    Comments:

I use my bike for getting out on single track routes in lots of testing conditions. This is my 1st 29er and I am pleased with it, but there are times when it does let its self down for what is an expensive bike. I have used it 4 times and already the powerlink has snapped! The shifting can sometimes be sticky but I think this is due to the confused cabling design. In mud, the frame clogs very easily between the rear tire and crank. The front wheel also clogs easily at the top of the shocks and doesn't clear without stopping and pulling out the mud (thinner tires maybe the way forward) Not good if you are racing! However, the bike is well balanced and responsive. I just feel these faults are easily fixed through design and engineering.

      Comments:

I use this bike for urban patrol. I added some Toughy Liners to the stock tires and set the TP at 60 lbs. I ride through all the nastiest alleys Baltimore has to offer plus all the hills and parks. I honestly feel like I'm riding a Cadillac after riding the other police bicycles given to us.

          Comments:

I ride this bike nearly every day (except in the winter time and rain) for multiple miles and it's AWESOME!! I live in Queens, NY and I'm all over the place: up/down sidewalks, over rivers (puddles) and through woods (parks) and to Grandmother's house too. I'm a lean, mean, bike-riding machine and I totally recommend this bike. By the way I'm 6'4 tall and this bike fits perfect.

          Comments:

Brakes are good, frame is excellent. The position your in has you ready for racing. Acceleration on this bike is awesome and will be better once you shed those grams. The crankset, and cassette however are junk!!! Get rid of that three ring crank and you'll shed lots of weight. Also why are they mismatching components such as a shimano casette with a sram x7 derailluer? I've had nothing but issues with tuning the derailluers until I found out why. This bike needs new crankset, and a casette if you want smooth crisp shifting. Not to mention the casette they use is well over 450 grams!!! By going down to a single speed in the front, and getting a new casette and moding it with a 42 tooth wolftooth or OneUP you will shed somewhere around 3.5 lbs.

First 29er. Intermediate experience. Commute to work 3/5 days per week (60% dirt, 40% street) totaling 30 miles per week. Durable, light feel, fast, remote lockout is useful when constantly changing between street/dirt during my commute. Brakes are a little noisy, the rear especially, but this is a fairly simple fix. Overall fantastic bike. Cant beat Trek quality, air fork, and awesome gearing.

I was skeptical about the hype around the G3 geometry. But I am thoroughly impressed the superfly 6 handles and corners every bit as well as my stumpjumper. But it does it with comfort.
