Got this as a bday gift to myself. Have not had a "nice" ride since my Nishiki, 30 yrs ago.Used primarily on the road, but got mountain bike to navigate off road when blue hairs get too close here in Fl. And ocassional trail or beach rides.Close to 1K miles on it in about a year.Shifting is reliable, clicks right in.Disc brakes are awesome, got cut off once and stopped on a dime!May be a bit heavy, but if you want light, get a road bike or go carbon.A great value and a nice ride!

I'm 6'8 and about 250lbs... I immediately saw this bike when I walked into the store. I wasn't sure what to expect but the size alone is awesome. I fit on it fine and I haven't had that since I was 12. It manuevers well and seems to be pretty good so far (I picked it up last week). I've been on a few fairly long rides and the only thing that really stands out as an issue so far is the seat. You would think that if the bike is made for larger people they would not put a tiny seat on it, without cushioning. It's probably going to be replaced fairly soon unless I can adjust to it.

      Comments:

bI Bought this bike around a month ago as an offroad/trail bike. I ride mostly on the sidewalks with a kid behind in a bike cart and this bike is perfect for that. Gearing is great, suspension takes most of the force in the front and brakes are OK. The cons I have are when hitting the trails on the weekend, the bike doesnt seem to hold up to the same quality as I would expect. The first time I shifted from 1 into 2 on the front sprocket, the derailer bent and the chain would rub on it while pedaling. After going down some pretty rough rocky/rooty trail at a descent speed, the brakes seemed loose and now have a clicking feeling when trying to stop. The stock seat was unbearable, so I went with an aftermarket seat. Overall if you plan on hitting any trails, you will need to have this bike tuned up quite often. If you are going to ride on pavement and just enjoy the outdoors, you will be fine.

            Comments:

I purchased this bike from my LBS, this trek is my second 29er and it is a great bike. I am 6 feet tall and I went with a 17.5 inch frame for technical trails. The thing I like best about this bike is how solid and easy it is to handle. I did have a marin alpine ridge 29er and that thing felt like a brute plus it felt kind of flimsy for my standards. It is also a great price for a 29er, I am not too concerned about components but they all seen to work very well, you can read the specs if you want to know more. The bike felt right for me and comfortable, I think its funny when people say it has an uncomfortable seat, its a mountain bike and you are going off road, no comfort allowed people. The sales people at the store are very curtious to customers, they let you ride several bikes and make great suggestions, plus they have the best selection and quality bikes in my area. I will buy from these people again and I would recomend them to anyone, and I have high standards when it comes to quality so if I say bike line is good, you can take that to the bank.

            Comments:

This is the first expensive bike that I have owned thus far, and is worth every penny of it in my opinion. I have the 2012 model, and enjoy the colors as well. First, I had the pedals and the seat changed, otherwise, I have all of the orginial factory stuff on it. All of the accesories that I have are as follows: head light and tail light, speedometer/odometer, two bottle holders, bike lock (key-type), and rear-tire rack. The only problem that I really have, is original tires, the sidewalls are paper thin, and two, as a rear tire, wears to quickly. Yet, when it comes to shedding mud, snow, water etc., very excellent. Have switched both front and rear tire for winter riding. Otherwise, the stock brakes are excellent. Rims are great, frame is excellent. Handling is excellent. Excellent for riding around town, or taking a ride through the country. If you like to ride trails, for example single-track type of trails, or state trails (i.e. Katy Trail in the State of Missouri) or anything in between, I think that is bike is an excellent choice. It is just my opinion.

            Comments:

I love the bike especially for the price! i do a lot of trail riding, been great with roots, rocks, logs, etc. At first i thought the bike would break being too rough on it, but its holding up awesome! i had trouble with the pedals and screws always came undone, but they were just stock pedals, so i upgraded a couple of things. My friend actually liked my bike enough that he bought the exact same one, same color too which wasn't cool. The blue paint looks the best! Great ride, highly would recommend!
