Comments:

I ride 3 times a week, getting in 50 miles or more. I used to be exclusively a mountain biker, but 2 things occred to me. At my age I wouldn't tackle the tough terrain anymore, and I wanted to connect trails via country roads (and I hated the road chatter). This bike fit the bill Perfectly!! It cruises over rocks and roots when needed, but it's very fast on the road thanks to the 700cc tires - and I love the fork lockout. Every recreational, multi-terrain fitness rider should consider this bike!

Wonderful ride and quite responsive. User friendly. I see plenty folks having an issue with the gears delaying...I haven't experienced that as yet...Hopefully I don't.

I use my Trek 8.3 DS to commute to and from work daily. Although it's a sprint across town, this bike couldn't fit my needs any better. Biking being a new hobby for me, I can't wait to to get both tires to the asphalt and ride. I honestly think that I could not have chosen a better bike.

This is the best bike I have ever riden. I ride for my health and ride mostly on the street which due to winter and potholes is almost like riding off road. I love the disc brakes when I need them they stop unlike the caliper brakes that took longer to stop when they got wet or muddy. The only thing that needs to be changed is the seat. I bought a gel seat cover to address this for now.

I decided that I wanted to try something different than running a few miles here and there. My wife used to road cycle heavily and I decided to go to my local shop and ask some questions. I did alot of research before I went on the hybrid line of bikes from Trek. I took a few models out on test rides and fell for the 8.3 DS. For my first bicycle it fit my needs perfectly.I love the fact that I can transition from road to trails w/o effort or concern and have logged in some heavy time and mileage. I look forward to getting more use out of the DS and already looking into cyclo-cross bikes. This is definetely worth the money, but I must say, the saddle isn't to friendly on the bottom region.

      Comments:

I bought my Trek 8.3 after a long hiatus from riding. Something on the order of from the Beatles to Bieber hiatus. So I really knew nothing about bikes when I went in to my local store. The sales guy took good care of me, trying to steer me toward a comfort bike. For some reason, I had in my head it must have two things: disc brakes and front shocks. I didn't realy plan on trail riding but had to have them. In other words, I didn't listen. After about four test rides, starting with pure mountain bikes and finally moving up to the hybrid 8.3, I finally decided I liked the DS best. The mountain bikes were a challenge to push along the road with low-pressure wide tires and the slightly narrower higher-pressure ones of the Dual Sport made a lot of difference. I've taken to riding about 10-15 miles per ride, every three or so days. LOTS of hilly sections, but all road riding. While I enjoy the 8.3 DS, I so wish I'd gone with a 7.4 Disc FX. I'm much more road oriented and the likelihood this bike will see any more than a dirt path through the hills is nil. The FX would have suited me far better! Ah well. Lesson learned. But for those of you wanting a capable, go-anywhere bike that will allow you entry to the world of cycling in just about any terrain - this is your bike. The 8.4 offers stronger brakes, but I've flown down our local road and bike ways are far faster speeds than I would if I were sane and it stops me just the same. Great bike, well-made.

I was looking for a bike for fitness and pleasure and for me this was the perfect selection. The thumb and trigger shifter work perfectly, I look forward to discover how the disc brakes hold up they work very well in my hilly terrain. Sometimes the controls for the brakes and shifters seem a bit close but not awkward.

        Comments:

Summary: Great bike with a couple of minor flaws, those being a rather harsh seat and, in my case, disc brakes that aren't quite up to par. Background: I first bought a road bike that I dearly loved from my test ride at the store. Then I tood it home to ride around my neighborhood, which isn't bad, but even the minor irregularities in my local roads were enough to render a teeth-jarring (literally) experience every time I took it out, so I decided to return it to look for a more real-world friendly bike. After a few test rides at my LBS, I settled on this one. In most ways, it's great. It looks good (in gray, not blue), rides well, is fast if you want it to be, changes gears magnificently, has a great riding position - not as vertical as a mountain bike; not as horizontal as a road bike - that's slightly aggressive. This bike is great for riding around on uneven pavement, sidewalks, roads with dirt on 'em or strewn with pepples, etc. My only complaints are that the seat isn't exactly comfy (it's not bad, just not soft), and the brakes on my bike don't perform anywhere near as good as on the one I rode at the store. The people there were great, so I'll take it back to have the brakes looked at to see what's up with them.
