2012 Trek Remedy 9.8

You know that unthinkably tough line that thwarts you on your local ride? Trek's Remedy 9.8 is your, well, remedy. This carbon ripper gives you 150mm of travel front and rear and weighs around 27 pounds. Trek's list of frame features is huge: E2 head tube, EVO link and a 95mm-wide BB for the stiffest possible chassis from end to end. And Trek's Full Floater and 142x12mm ABP makes the rear suspension more active and the braking more controlled at any speed. Speaking of suspension, Fox's Float fork and rear shock is DRCV-equipped for the perfect balance of plushness and efficiency over everything from small pebbles to big, high-speed hits. The specs are legit too, with Shimano XT/XTR, a Reverb dropper post and tubeless-ready Bonty wheels. Your Remedy is here; go long, go big.

    Comments:

This bike will do the following on the East Coast: *Just about everything that 29'ers can do *Log hopping *Plow over roots *Destroy rock gardens (Depends on your skill level) *Climb rocky trails *3-5 feet drops *High ground clearance *Downhill *Incredible carbon frame power transfer I love my carbon Remedy 9.7. As a former 29er hardtail owner, I have never looked back. I wanted one mountain bike where I can take it to both east and west coasts, rocky mountains and Canada. This was the bike that will meet my expectations no matter what mountain I ride on! Although, Trek shold NEVER put Avid brakes or SRAM components on their bikes. I replaced all of them with Shimano XT and it is twice as better now - especially during climbs/descends.

    Comments:

This bike is amazing. By slacking the head angle Trek has gotten the remedy real dialed. I run a 170mm Lyrik and it gets the head angle just about right. I wish that it had a 160mm of travel instead of the 150mm, and Slash should be at 180mm

Game changing bike for me in several ways. After years spent riding and racing Top Fuel 9.9s I spent time having fun on a Fuel Ex but figured more travel was worth investigating. I'll still race my Top Fuel but just about every other ride will likely be spent aboard the Remedy. Got it just in time for a week long trip to Moab with the family. Put FR3 tires on for some added sidewall beef. Hit everything from Pipe Dream to Amasa/ Jackson's to Flat Pass to two separate runs down Mag 7/ Gold Bar blue dot/ Portal with a couple hours at Loma thrown in on the way home. With that in mind, I remain blown away by this bike. The new XT brakes are as strong as reported, especially with big rotors but the rear derailleur steals the show component-wise. Flick the magic gold clutch lever and chain slap is gone and I never threw the chain to the outside. Bar, stem, fork are all sweet and the color scheme is super subtle and cool enough that my 7 year old daughter told me she liked it. Looks like more green on screen than in real life where the black really dominates. Still dialing in suspension but it climbs much better than expected even up Gold Bar 'Grind' slickrock ledgy steps. Only thing I wish came standard...a bigger set of balls! *I did find the stock grips a bit firm for my office jockey, callous-free March hands

              Comments:

I moved to Chicago from Portland, OR a while back, now aside from Voodoo doughnuts, the best thing about Portland is the ridiculous amount of Mtn biking you can do in the city. Including full on Downhill. In fact my last bike was a 40lb Downhill sled, which I absolutely loved. When I realized that there are no hills in Chicago I was quite disappointed. But I needed a bike, so I was lead to a Remedy 9.8. I have to say that it is probably the best bike I have ever owned, quite an accomplishment considering the list, and that my last 2 were completely custom bikes. It's light weight (29lb 11oz, with *heavy* pedals and aftermarket brakes, heavier than stock), rides like it weighs far less, the travel adjustment in the front is absolutely fantastic, Pro pedal rocks, the parts kit is almost perfect. I did however change a few parts (brakes, H-Bar). I simply am not a huge fan of Avid brakes, Hope is my personal preference, and the H-bar was a bit narrow for my taste considering what I am using the bike for. The only other bikes I considered were about 800-1200$ more and full custom jobs. I give it 4 star only because I changed a few parts, and it has a white saddle, seriously who puts a white saddle on a Mtn bike?!

If you want to have fun on a bike (and isn't that what it's all about) then this is the bike to ride! This bike is ideal for riding in western Colorado and Utah. It climbs great but comes alive in the downhills. The amazing thing is how well in climbs technical terrain!

Rode this for the first time, around North Wales U.K. Tested it's capabilities, through thick mud/snow, rocks, roots, jumps, etc. What an amazing bike, even climbing uphill, i was spinning in the middle ring. I also own a Fuel Ex 9, (which is also an outstanding bike), and the 9.8 is as light, and dare I say it more capable, than that. I would tackle almost anything, with the 9.8, without hesitation.

                  Comments:

Rode my 9.8 for the first time today, took it to North Wales, and proceeded to test its adaptability on a wide range of obstacles, from rock gardens, berms, jumps, to climbs, and flowing singletrack. A fantastic machine, you can pick your own lines with this bike, it eats up everything you point it at.Rode it through thick mud and ice, no problem. I have already changed the brakes, this is just a personnel choice, as Avid brakes, don't really work for me. Also not sure about the the long term durability, of the adjustable seatpost, but time will tell. On the whole though this is without doubt, the best bike I've ever owned. Well worth its five stars.
